Product Overview Zopiclone 7.5 mg is a prescription non-benzodiazepine hypnotic agent (often called a “Z-drug”). It is primarily used for the short-term treatment of severe insomnia in adults, including difficulty falling asleep, frequent night awakenings, or early morning waking, where the insomnia is debilitating or causing severe distress. Zopiclone acts on the brain to produce a calming effect by enhancing the activity of the neurotransmitter GABA.

Important Warning This medicine is intended for short-term use only (typically 2–4 weeks maximum, including tapering). Prolonged use can lead to tolerance, physical and psychological dependence, and withdrawal symptoms. It is a controlled substance in many countries due to potential for abuse and addiction. Next-day impairment (“hangover” effect) is common—ensure 7–8 hours of sleep. Complex sleep-related behaviors (e.g., sleep-walking, sleep-driving) have been reported. Always follow your doctor’s instructions precisely.

Dosage and Administration

• Adults: Usual dose is 7.5 mg taken orally immediately before bedtime.
• Elderly (over 65 years), debilitated, or patients with liver/kidney impairment: Start with 3.75 mg (half tablet); maximum 7.5 mg only if necessary and tolerated.
• Take on an empty stomach for faster onset. Ensure you can have a full night’s sleep.
• Do not stop suddenly—taper off gradually under medical supervision to prevent rebound insomnia or withdrawal symptoms (anxiety, tremors, seizures).

Common Side Effects

• Bitter or metallic taste in the mouth
• Daytime drowsiness, dizziness, or dry mouth
• Headache, fatigue, or nausea
• Memory impairment or confusion

Serious side effects (seek immediate medical help): Complex sleep behaviors (e.g., sleep-walking, eating, driving), severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, hallucinations, or severe breathing problems.

Precautions and Contraindications

• Do not use if you have: Known hypersensitivity to zopiclone/esopiclone, severe liver impairment, severe respiratory insufficiency, sleep apnea syndrome, myasthenia gravis, or history of drug/alcohol dependence.
• Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants (e.g., opioids, benzodiazepines, sedatives)—can cause life-threatening respiratory depression or enhanced side effects.
• Not recommended during pregnancy (risk of fetal harm) or breastfeeding (passes into breast milk).
• May impair driving or operating machinery the next day—do not drive if affected.
• Use extreme caution in elderly patients due to increased risk of falls, confusion, cognitive impairment, and fractures.
