Description
Product Overview Co-codamol 30 mg/500 mg is a prescription combination analgesic containing codeine phosphate 30 mg (an opioid pain reliever) and paracetamol 500 mg (acetaminophen). It is used for the short-term relief of moderate to severe acute pain in adults and children over 12 years when other painkillers (such as paracetamol or ibuprofen alone) are ineffective. Codeine works by binding to opioid receptors to reduce pain perception, while paracetamol helps relieve pain and fever.
Important Warning This medicine contains codeine, an opioid with high potential for addiction, tolerance, dependence, misuse, and withdrawal. It should only be used for short-term treatment (typically no more than 3 days). Prolonged or regular use can lead to addiction. Risk of life-threatening respiratory depression (slow/shallow breathing), especially when combined with alcohol, other opioids, or CNS depressants. Overdose can cause severe liver damage from paracetamol or fatal opioid effects. Do not exceed the recommended dose or take with other paracetamol-containing products. Always follow your doctor’s instructions precisely.

- Adults: 1–2 tablets every 4–6 hours as needed. Maximum 8 tablets (240 mg codeine/4,000 mg paracetamol) in 24 hours.
- Children 12–18 years: Use only under medical supervision; lower doses may be needed.
- Elderly or patients with liver/kidney issues: Lower dose recommended; consult doctor.

- Do not use if you have: Hypersensitivity to codeine/paracetamol, severe respiratory issues, acute asthma attack, children under 12 years, recent tonsil/adenoid removal (risk of sleep apnea), severe liver disease, or if taking MAOIs (within 14 days).
- Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants (e.g., benzodiazepines, opioids)—can cause severe respiratory depression, coma, or death.
